Top 10 Ways to Find Good Movers Online:

How to Identify Rogue Moving Companies

The internet has become one of the primary resources for people to find the services they need, but how can you tell whether or not a moving company you find online is a legitimate business? Contrary to popular belief, you cannot trust everything that is on the Web, because anyone can create a website to promote their business.

In the moving industry, illegitimate movers who do not operate under lawful means are referred to as ‘rogue mover’. Rogue moving companies are responsible for countless moving scams and rip offs. Here are just a few simple tips to help you identify quality-assured moving companies from rogue operators who can potentially ruin or steal your belongings and even worse, cheat you out of hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Photos of actual workers will also give you an indication that the moving company is actually in existence.
  4. Information About the Company: Real moving companies will tell you about themselves, and offer background information about their company. An About Us page is a common feature on the website of most genuine movers.
  5. Testimonials: Actual movers who do a good job relocating clients will post the positive feedback they’ve gotten about their services. This section will likely be labeled as ‘testimonials’ or ‘moving reviews’.
  6. Telephone Response: Call prospective movers to verify that they have a working phone number. Pay attention to the way they identify themselves when taking your call. Rogue movers who create multiple moving company personas cannot determine which moving company a customer is calling for and will identify themselves as simple ‘movers’ or ‘moving company’ as opposed to an actual business name, such as saying “Thank you for calling ‘American Van Lines’ how may I help you?”
  7. AMSA & ProMover Validation: The American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) created the ProMover division to help customers identify authentic
